There are many children who have a favorite type of toy. This can be teddy bears, Cabbage Patch dolls, Care Bears, soft dogs and cats. They can even be the world famous Barbie and Ken dolls. These two dolls are well known by many people and not just children. While these two dolls are mainly used as toys by little girls, collectors will not hesitate to buy either of these should they come across one.

The Barbie and Ken dolls are made so that they resemble adults. The many different careers and styles of the years have an impact on the lives of these dolls. Today you will find that the world of Barbie has many accessories and items that can be used with either of these two dolls. There are also companion dolls that are of different ethnic backgrounds.

The original Barbie doll was based on a German doll called Bild Lilli. Once Mattel made Barbie and acquired the rights to the German doll, Lilli was soon discontinued. Barbie was then officially given the name Barbara Millicent Roberts. Ken was named Ken Carson. The names for the Barbie and Ken dolls were taken from the names of Ruth Handler, who was the original designer of Barbie.

Their relationship was a on and off relationship. After a 43 year relationship, the Mattel Company decided that it was time for the two dolls relationship to end.

This separation lasted for about 2 years. In 2006 Barbie and Ken were made into a couple again. While the reason for the separation of the famous couple is probably due to a decline in sales, the reason they are a couple is that probably Barbie doesn’t sound complete without Ken.

While the popularity of both Barbie and Ken is attributed to the clothes and accessories you can buy, the look of the dolls may also play an important role. For many young girls Barbies looks are in keeping with the careers that she keeps getting. This fashion conscious doll has gone from being merely a fashion doll to a pilot, doctor, airline stewardess, astronaut, rock star to even being a fairy tale princess or mermaid.

Now while Barbie and Ken are just toys they are iconic figures. The looks and careers you see these dolls appearing in are an indication of how toy fashions can change. The one constant perhaps is the imagination and the endless hours of fun that a girl can derive from just playing with her Barbie and Ken dolls.

Want to have some cheap fun in your apartment without causing too much destruction and havoc? Have a picture party!

And by party, I don’t mean inviting tons and tons of people. I’d advise, for your sake and for your neighbors’ sake, limit your guest list to 5-8 people. Also, be sure that the ones whom you invite are creative and good with cameras. At the end of this event, you want to come away with hundreds of really great photos from a variety of different eyes that will immortalize your apartment and help you retain those often awesome, yet fleeting memories.

And if you take some really awesome pictures that feature your sweet looking apartment…be sure to share them with your apartment manager! Maybe they could use them to show how great and fun their apartments can be…Just a thought.

There are two ways of having this event.

1) Got Digital? - Have each of your guests bring their own digital camera and the cables or card readers they’ll need to transfer any pics to your computer. Schedule some board games or other fun activities as well as place a number of fun, cool looking objects around the apartment. Of course, you will want to have a few snacks and refreshments available. (Remember adult beverages should be for adults only and handled responsibly)

You’ll want to have a timer that goes off at a set time every couple of minutes or so, which will be time for every guest to take a picture. Doesn’t really matter of what as long as it’s a cool pic!

Then after a couple of hours, transfer all of the pictures over to your computer, have a slide show, and a ton of great laughs!

Disposable Disco- This one is more for those who are less concerned with perfect pictures and more concerned with the element of surprise. Supply each of your guests with a disposable camera as soon as they walk through your door. Follow the same activity and time guidelines as above, but every 10 minutes have everyone put all the cameras into a bag, shake them up, and then pull out another camera. This really mixes it up!

You could then take a group trip to your nearest one hour photo lab and see if they’d be able to actually print all the pics within an hour. If so, kill some time shopping or grabbing a drink while the pictures are being developed. After you pick them up, take them all back to the apartment and spread them out all over the floor.

You’ll come away with a bunch of great pics and possibly some great new decorating ideas with all the excellent photos.

Quick tip: If you keep your apartment well lit, make sure that you don’t use the flash. Flashes have a tendency of really white washing out pictures and if you can get around using one because your room is really bright…do it!

Either way you decide to do it, if you end up hosting one of these picture taking events, post your pictures on an account at Flickr and post a link to your pics in a comment on this blog. I’d love to share them in our blogs!

Have you ever watched the television program Dancing With The Stars? If not, that is surprising. Dancing With the Stars is a television show that is loved by many different people of all different ages. For example, I am a mother of 6 children. Dancing With the Stars is the only show that my children, all except the baby because he can not talk, and I love to watch. We try not to miss a single episode.

My oldest, an eleven year old girl and my 4th oldest, a four year old girl, sit week after week glued to the screen hoping to pick up some new moves to use in their drill squad performances. If we have to miss an episode, I hear it for days from them both.

Then there is the flipside, and by that I mean the portion of my family that are boys. I have two boys that watch it weekly as well and they are 7 and 8 years old. The older of the two watch it wondering if he will ever dance like that and the younger of the two watch it hoping to see someone mess up. Go figure, boys will be boys.

I personally like to watch it because it shows that celebrities do not automatically come by a wide array of talent they have to work to become good at some things. My personal favorite celebrity that has been on the show, probably showed that more than some. Billy Ray Cyrus is my favorite of the all the celebrities that have appeared on Dancing With the Stars. He struggled from day one. He was large and awkward to put it nicely.

Billy Ray never let his awkwardness hold him back though. He gave it his all every time he performed. An interesting point is that season, all of my children were also rooting Billy Ray on. Granted they were rooting for him because he is the father to their favorite actress but none the less, it again shows the wide range of ages that enjoy the show. After all, any show that can keep the interest of a woman in their mid to late 30s and also her six children must have something worthwhile in it.

Now let us take a minute to compare what the different age groups think of the judges. The three widely known judges are; Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonili. Every one has their own opinion of the judges. Some like one or two of them and there are also some that like all three or none of them. I like the fact that the judges usually will be right on the money. However, I have noticed that my children tend to get upset with the judges, even when their scores are warranted, if the judges give their favorite performer a bad score. They seem to be hardest on Carrie Ann, especially my boys.

No matter what age, sex, or geographic area you are from, chances are you have seen an episode or more of the ever popular show Dancing With the Stars. If you have children, try to sit down and watch an episode with them. It is a fun way to install quality family time in this hectic world we live in.

The Tiwas, popularly known as the Lalungs, are really one of the major ethnic groups of Assam. They are found living in the districts of Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup and also in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. They are culturally advanced and have contributed much to the culture of Assam.

The Tiwas observe many festivals in the different weathers of the year which are connected with the different deities of their own. Songs and dances also follow the festivals. The different important festivals observed by the Tiwas are the Bihu or “Bisu”, “Barat” “Sarga Miswa”, “Wansua” “Jon-Bila-Mela” and so on.

The “Sagra Misawa” is one of the most important festivals of the Tiwas. It is a spring dance festival which is held in the month of Fagun (February/March). The Tiwa word “Sagra” means all while misawa means dance. Hence the Sagra Misawa festival means this that the Tiwas must join the festival and dance and sing in the same. Basically it is an agricultural festival and its songs have sexual impulses.

There are different phoids or divisions of the Tiwas who opine separate opinions regarding the origin and the process of observing the Sagra Misawa. Moreover, there are some differences in the ways of dancing and holding the function among the Tiwas including their sumbolic dresses used in the festival. In all respects we see some separate features of the phoids of the Tiwas. Nonetheless, there is the similarity in the main stream of the festival. In other words it may be said that all the phoids of the Tiwas never recede back from the main trend of the festival while observing the same.

It has already been mentioned that the Sagra Misawa is held in the month of Fagun. “The Samadi” or the bachelors’ dormitory forms the nucleus for this dance sequence”. A huge preparation is necessary for holding the festival in time. The festival is held from the month of February to nearly the second week of March, specially from Wednesday of the week to Monday. “Rehearsal of “Sagra” song and dance take place early in October and continues till the time of inauguration of the festival in February or March”. The festival has much similarity with the Bohag Bihu of the Assamese.

It may be mentioned that the Tiwas do not start their formal dances without performing the “Langkhun” and Mahadeo Pujas. The “Langkhun” Puja is of two parts. One part is Sakha Langkhun Puja while the other is Tara Langkhun Puja. The former Puja is observed in the month of Kati (October/November) while the latter is observed just after week of the former. The Mahadeo Puja is observed after the performance of the Tara Langkhun Puja. However, in the Lungkhun Puja the Tiwas sacrifice fowl, duck, pigeons and black goats before the deities while in the Mahadeo Puja they sacrifice a white goat before the deity.

Only after performing these pujas Tiwas start their formal song and dance. The young boys and girls dance to enrich the fertility power of the earth. The Sagra Misawa songs are “Sex-provoking and the entire scene is pervaded with mirth and langhter”. It may be mentioned that the Sagra dance is started from the day since the house of “Loro” receives the “Laxmi Aai” i.e., the goddess of wealth with honour on the first Wednesday of Aghon (in the month of Aghon). It is seen that the young girls express their love during the festival (November/December).

During the festival the Sagra dances use masks and as such they are called “Nartaks”. Of the three important Nartaks two are Umudis and one is Dangari. The “Pura” or “Bura” and “Mas” come only after these three dancers. The “Mas” uses a deer mask and cloth while the Pura, Umudis and Dangaria wear a “Phaga” or a turban each. The Pura, Umudis and Dangaria use crowns above their turbans and wear “Taglas” or shirts in their bodies, which are all embroidered. Further, there are embroidered Muga or Cotton Chaddars above their Tangas. The embroidered Muga or Cotton Chaddars or “Dhotis” of the Nartaks are very lengthy. Their hair dressing combs are also of special types with designs of elephants on them.

The Sagra dancers or the Nartaks are well entertained by the members of the households in their houses. The musical instruments specially used by them in the dances are “Khram”, Thorang and Bangshi or Flutes. The “Chang Maji” supplies the Sagra dancers with their traditional dresses. The persons who rake part in the Sagra festival as symbolic dresses cannot put off their dresses until and unless the festival comes to an end. With the placing of them in the appointed “Sagra Sal” there ends the festival.

It may be mentioned that in some phoids of the Tiwas the system of collecting the subscription of betel-nut is in vogue on the second day i.e. Thursday of the Sagra festival. Then it is on the third day of the festival a “Mock-court” is held in which allegations of false sex-scandails are brought against all officers. They are tried there and the guilty officers are fined which they have to pay. Then, after the mock trial the betel-nuts are distributed among the people taking out them from the bundles thenin the evening of that day.

However, after the mock trial and the distribution of the betel-nuts of the bundles, the Sagra Misawa festival is ended in the house of the Deori in the evening of that day.

The Sagra Misawa festival has two features. It is sex-provoking for which young boys and girls get the chance of expressing their love during the time of the festival. Moreover, it shows non-violence to the creatures during the days of the festival. No one is allowed to kill any bird or beast during the time of the festival. The violation of the ruse leads the violators to face severe punishment.

The Sagra Misawa festival is both loving and attractive festival of the Tiwas. The “Mock Court” is held for the purpose of making fun and merriment. The egg breaking task near a stream by them is done for their belief of saving them from the evils of life. However, the festival is still in Vogue in some places of Nagaon, Morigaon and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam. The festival is indeed an important resource of the culture of Assam.

In Elleai’s case, this overwhelming statistic also worked against her as she suddenly became caught in the middle of accusations from her Australian friends that she was posing as another person after accounts begun to emerge using Elleai’s pictures, information and even similar MySpace URL’s.

“Her friends were starting to come across accounts that had pictures of her [her MySpace "fakes"] or pictures of her body with someone else’s face photoshopped on top, pictures of her face on someone else’s body, distorted pictures of herself, pictures of Elleai that had been edited so they didn’t look like the original, all kinds of weird appropriations of her pictures. Her friends became distrusting towards her and some even treated her like a black sheep, believing that whatever MySpace account they had found with an edited picture of her was possibly the ‘real’ girl from the picture [suggesting Elleai had tried to adopt the identity of someone else],” Says a friend, “It was a hard time for Elleai. She lost some people she truly cared about because they lost faith in her honesty.”

Another friends says, “…some people started to catch on, searching her name on google to see what came up and then would suddenly find themselves overwhelmed with her name appearing on Fashion Model directories, fansites dedicated to her, blogzines talking about her, pictures, biographies about her, facts, and even gossip,” says a friend, “people were starting to think, “what the hell, Elleai’s famous?” and became annoyed that she hadn’t told them about it. It set her relationships with people back a huge step, she even lost a friend because of it.”
